    D.h. es sind eigentlich keine Neuigkeiten.
    Nr.2: ja, der Ausfall, sofern es wirklich dazu kommt, könnte ohne weiteres kompensiert werden. Herzlich, Francois und Akins (und das sind nur die Backups) haben letzt Saison bereits Spiele gestarted. Will Thompson und Dan Williams kommen neu dazu - der LB-Corps ist wahrscheinlich noch stärker als des Offensive Backfield.

    Donte Elliott ** ATH/DB/QB aus Houston wird ab nächstem Jahr für die Eagles Football spielen. Kansas und Oklahoma State waren auch an ihm dran.
    Ich kann so gut wie nichts über ihn sagen, außer das er als DB recruited wurde.

    Das scout Network braucht immer ein wenig länger um Spieler "richtig" einzustufen. Der Coaching-Staff will ihn als DB, genauergesagt Safety, einsetzten.

    wie siehts bei Billy Flutie aus? Wird man den jemals am Feld sehen? Was ich bisher gelesen habe hört sich eher nach einer Marketing Sache an als, dass er dem Team helfen kann. Seine Athletic Skills sollen ziemlich schwach sein.

    Marketing Gag, das bezweifle ich sehr stark. Außerhalb von Massachusetts weiß sicher niemand, dass da ein Flutie im Roster steht.

    Ich denke auch nicht, dass man Flutie jemals als QB sehen wird, seiner Position an der High School. Am ehesten wird er irgendwan mal Punter.

    Flutie hat beim diesjährigen Spring Game übrigens als Receiver gespielt.

    Marketing Gag im College? Sag mal ist das dein Ernst? Sowas hat eine Universität wie Boston College nicht notwendig. Und vom Sohn von Doug wird jetzt nicht abhängig sein ob BC mehr Tickets verkauft als vorher.

    Preview 2007 - Offense

    What you need to know: It's Matt Ryan's offense and everyone is just playing in it. The new coaching staff will install a new zone blocking scheme, putting a premium on quick, flashy runners, but the line might not be suited for the system. The receiving corps is decent, but nothing special, and the tight ends are promising. It all comes down to Ryan, who'll have more control in the attack, able to change things up a bit on the fly, and he should be tremendous now that he's healthy. He was the best quarterback in the ACC last year, and that was with a broken foot.

    Quarterbacks
    Projected Starter: Senior Matt Ryan was the best quarterback in the ACC last year, completing 62% of his passes for 2,942 yards and 15 touchdowns with ten interceptions, and he did it with a broken foot for most of the year. The 6-5, 218-pound senior ran for four touchdowns, but he's not exactly a runner and he doesn't exactly fit what the coaching staff might want. Even so, Jeff Jagodzinski is a huge Ryan fan, going out of his way to praise him this spring. Ryan's a great decision maker, tough as nails, and has a great future at the next level. No, he's not going to tear off and big runs, but he's mobile in the pocket and does a great job of avoiding the rush.

    Projected Top Reserve: 6-4, 232-pound junior bomber Chris Crane might seem like only a bomber, but he has surprising rushing skills with two touchdowns, both against Buffalo, and positive yards overall. He completed 22 of 32 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown with an interception in a limited role, and he was great this spring. He'll be the main man going into next year.

    Watch Out For ... Crane to see more time. It'll take a bulldozer to get Ryan off the field, but the coaching staff will want to get Crane work just in case. Someone has to be ready for the future.
    Strength: Ryan. Because he's tall, because he plays in Boston, and because he wears No. 12, he gets compared to Tom Brady. On a collegiate level, that's not insane. He always makes the right throw, has good arm strength, and makes everyone around him better.
    Weakness: A quarterback to fit the philosophy. Offensive coordinator Steve Logan would like a running quarterback to be able to add something different to the attack. He'll be happy to settle with Ryan.
    Outlook: Matt Ryan might be the ACC Player of the Year with the talent to carry the team on his back and finally get BC over the hump. Chris Crane proved this spring that he can be a good fill-in. It would've been nice to have had Ross Applegate around as a third option, but he transferred.
    Rating: 9

    What a name: Cory Lekkerkerker :rock:

    Running Backs
    Projected Starters: While often playing second-fiddle in the running game, the new blocking scheme should mean a big season for 5-11, 204-pound senior Andre Callender. A darting, quick back with 1,978 career yards and eight touchdowns to go along with 62 catches for 497 yards, he has done just about everything for the offense except be a workhorse with only four games out of 42 with 20 or more carries. He'll still be part of a rotation, but he'll be the team's most effective back.

    Paving the way, when a fullback is used, will be 6-2, 240-pound redshirt freshman James McCluskey. After coming to BC as a star linebacker, he was moved over to the offensive side early on and could end up getting a few carries here and there. He has the potential to be a good, unsung cog in the attack.

    Projected Top Reserves: 5-11, 216-pound senior L.V. Whitworth has had a great career with 2,221 rushing yards, 14 touchdowns, and 68 catches for 580 yards and a score. He's been the team's starter, even though he's been in a rotation with Callender, splitting carries almost evenly. A slam-between-the-tackles runner, he's a tough back who doesn't quite fit the new offensive style, but will still be effective. Banged up at the end of last year, he struggled in the season finale against Miami and only carried the ball two times against Navy. Now he's back and ready to be a 15-carry-a-game back again.

    Junior A.J. Brooks has had a hard time finding carries with just 19 for 66 yards and two scores. A speedy back who should shine under the new coaching staff with the ability to burst through the line and potentially tear off a few huge runs. He's only seen mop-up duty so far, but he could play a bigger role.

    Watch Out For ... Whitworth to be slowly phased out. He's a good runner, but he simply isn't the right fit for what the coaching staff is going to want to do. He won't lead the team in rushing again.
    Strength: Veterans. Callender and Whitworth have seemingly been around forever as a consistent, productive 1-2 punch. Yeah, Whitworth might step aside a bit for Callender, but he'll still get a good amount of work.
    Weakness: Goal line back. With top short-yardage runner Brian Toal likely to not get the job anymore, thanks to a bad shoulder, either Whitworth has to use his size to be the main man inside, or this could be a slight issue.
    Outlook: The offense won't revolve around the ground game like it did under Tom O'Brien, but it'll still be effective. The zone blocking scheme needs quick backs who can cut back and be creative. That's Callender more than Whitworth, and even Brooks could grow into a serious threat to become a top producer.
    Rating: 7

    Receivers
    Projected Starters: Back as the number one receiver after catching 47 passes for 543 yards and five touchdowns is 5-9, 178-pound senior Kevin Challenger. He missed all of spring ball hurt, but he's expected to be back by the start of the season to be Matt Ryan's steady go-to target. Not necessarily a possession receiver, he's not a deep threat, either. He's a tough, quick playmaker with nice hands. He's as reliable as they come.

    The Eagles lost Tony Gonzalez, who had a strong season with 43 catches for 491 yards and five touchdowns, but there's a good chance there's an upgrade at the position with the emergence of 5-10, 195-pound junior Brandon Robinson. He finished third on the team with 36 catches for 490 yards and a touchdown, and had an amazing spring, showing off great deep speed and playmaking ability. Now he has to prove he can be consistent.

    Back at tight end is 6-4, 254-pound senior Ryan Thompson, who caught 12 catches for 141 yards. Part of a rotation, he'll be the team's best receiving tight end and could have an expanded role after coming on over the second half of last year.

    Projected Top Reserves: Even when Challenger is back, 6-1, 212-pound sophomore Clarence Megwa will be a major factor in the offense after a terrific spring. He caught 12 catches for 126 yards, but he was great in spring ball and should be more of a deep threat than Challenger and will see time in three-wide sets.

    Behind Robinson will be 5-11, 205-pound sophomore Rich Gunnell after making eight catches for 97 yards. He has good quickness and the ability to play inside or out. Not the deep threat Megwa is, he'll have to find his turn in the rotation as the fourth target in the mix.

    While Thompson will be the receiving tight end, 6-5, 271-pound senior Jon Loyte will be the top blocker. He caught six passes for 42 yards and two short touchdowns, but he'll mostly be used in two tight end sets to be like a third tackle.

    Watch Out For ... Robinson. The coaching staff has been counting on him to grow into a dangerous field stretcher who opens everything up underneath. The passing game needs him to be steady.
    Strength: Tight end. Thompson and Purvis aren't going to earn any All-ACC honors, but they'll be a solid tandem that does a little bit of everything well. They can be a bigger part of the passing game, make the big blocks, and do anything needed.
    Weakness: Number one receiver. Challenger is functional, but he won't produce much more than a big yawn from most good shutdown corners. He'll get his 2-to-5 catches a game, but Robinson and Megwa have to step up and turn into the dangerous playmakers.

    Outlook: Serviceable. This is a serviceable receiving corps that'll look good with Matt Ryan throwing the ball. It'll run good routes, keep the chains moving, and do just enough to make the offense go. It won't get shut down cold by anyone, but it won't light anyone up like a Christmas tree, either. With the way Ryan will spread the ball around, everyone will get a turn.
    Rating: 6.5

    Die Herbst-Trainigseinheiten wurden von der Defense dominiert, die Offense wurde aber gegen Ende immer stärker. Das lässt sich darauf zurückführen das es zu Beginn immer noch Probleme mit dem Zone-Blocking Schema gab. DAs wichtigste: es gibt keine Verletzungen.

    Brian Toal setzt diese Saison aus:

    Boston College linebacker Brian Toal said he will be forced to sit out this season because of his injured right shoulder.
    "I met with [coach Jeff Jagodzinski] last week . . . and we both agreed it would be best for everyone if I were to redshirt this upcoming season," Toal told the website Eagle Action.
    Toal's father, Greg, supported the decision: "He needs to get 100 percent healthy and come back for his senior season next fall. It just makes the most sense."
    Toal has endured a series of shoulder and neck injuries, and had a torn labrum in his right shoulder repaired in March. The senior, who has been rehabbing all summer, has been at Eagles practices this week.
    By redshirting, Toal will have two options at season's end: Return to BC for the '08 season or declare himself eligible for the NFL draft.
    "We could [declare for the draft], I guess, but I would say that's a long shot right now," said Greg Toal. "The plan is to get Brian as healthy so he can play next fall."
    Jagodzinski had planned to wait until just before the season started to make the official announcement. But yesterday the player stated what everyone had been thinking.
    "I'm just not going to be healthy [this season] and we felt it would make more sense if I were to sit out the season, get to 100 percent, and come back for my fifth year," Toal told Eagle Action.

    Depth Chart wird morgen bekanntgegeben. Es bahnt sich eine große Überraschung bei der Right Tackle Postition an: True Freshmen Anthony Castonzo spielte großartig bei den Trainigseinheiten und sollte zumindest Backup sein. Er scheint das neue Bocking System sehr schnell (bzw. schneller als seine Konurrenten) erfasst zu haben.

    Anthony Castonzo dreamed of playing big-time college football before he even played a game in high school. His father, Bill, played at the University of Illinois, and his older brother, Bill Jr., eventually played at Drake.
    The game always has been in his blood.
    But the Chicago-area product admitted yesterday he’s shocked at how quickly things have happened for him at Boston College. All indications point toward Castonzo, a true freshman who did a post-graduate year at Fork Union Military in Virginia, starting at right tackle when the Eagles open up against Wake Forest on Sept. 1.
    “It is very stunning,” Castonzo said yesterday. “You can’t really expect that. Obviously, that’s what I was working for, but it is kind of stunning.”
    Castonzo began getting repetitions with the first team in the second half of a scrimmage last week, then he got the start in Sunday’s scrimmage and has topped the depth chart ever since.
    At 6-foot-7 and 260 pounds, he fits the mold of the streamlined offensive lineman head coach Jeff Jagodzinski wants to play in his new zone-blocking scheme.
    He would become the first true freshman to start since Paul Zukauskas started the fourth game of the season in 1997. It had been 20 years since a true freshman had started on the offensive line before Zukauskas.
    Castonzo was hurt during his sophomore season at Lake Zurich High School, and when he came back to play his junior year, he was a gangly 190 pounds. He put on 30 pounds before his senior season, but the only interest he got was from Ivy League schools.
    He decided to call Fork Union Military coach John Shuman, whom he’d met at a football camp. Shuman told him what he wanted to hear.
    “He said, ‘If you come here and work your hardest, I will get you to a Division 1 football college,’ ” Castonzo said. “Usually, I wouldn’t believe someone who guarantees that, but then I looked at his past and what he’s done with kids. I believed the guy.”
    Sure enough, Castonzo took the same route as Eddie George, Vinny Testaverde, Mike Quick and others. He worked hard at Fork Union and climbed the ladder of offers. William & Mary, Temple, Virginia, and Stanford came calling before something serendipitous happened.
    Mike Siravo, who’d been looking at Castonzo to play for Temple, was hired by Jagodzinski as the Eagles recruiting coordinator. He gave the lineman a call.
    “He asked, ‘Where are you now in your decision process?’ And I was like, ‘You guys are still in it,’ ” said Castonzo, who thought Siravo still was at Temple. “And then he said, ‘Well, I’m at Boston College now,’ and my mouth dropped.”
    Castonzo was on board. And it looks like he hasn’t disappointed the BC coaching staff.
    “I’m not shocked at all,” Shuman said. “You could tell right away that he was tall with good feet, and he was smart and has a great motor. He worked five times harder than anybody else.”
    Now, with less than two weeks to go before Wake Forest, Castonzo admits to a healthy case of butterflies.
    “I was on the phone the other day with my dad, and I told him, ‘I’m a starter. That’s pretty cool,’ ” Castonzo said. “And he was like, ‘This is what you’ve dreamed about all your entire life, and you’re actually there now.’
    “It’s finally real.”

    Recruiting Updates/neue Commitments:

    Stephen Atkinson, Safety aus Florida, Cardinal Gibbons HS in Fort Lauderdale - sehr starke Schule in der Gegend, kam Mitte Juli an Board. Mit 2 ** noch niedrig bewertet (auch wenn ich von den Star-System Rankings nicht allzuviel halte, man muss sich nur mal ansehen wer die Recruiting Seiten betreut) aber Miami übt heftigen Druck auf ihn aus, Shannon will ihn scheinbar unbedingt. Die werden Rivals und Scout ihn bald auf 3 *** upgraden. Wisconsin, Iowa State und West Virginia waren auch an ihm dran.

    Matt Stone, Local aus Massachussets (Nr.9 in Mass. laut Rivals) wird wohl DE spielen. Tolle Size/Speed Kombination wird aber einige Jahre Coaching benötigen bevor er weiterhilft.

    Clyde Lee, WR aus Texas. Bicknell hält viel von ihm.
    Hightower HS hat dieses Jahr die schnellsten Receiver in Texas anzubieten. Er läuft angeblich 4,45, genauso wie Martin Bayless. Isiah Sweeney sogar unter 4,4. BC ist an allen drei interessiert

    Rivals vermeldete gestern *** DE Kaleb Ramsey aus Pennsylvania als neuersten Recruit. Hatte insgesamt fast 20 Scholarship-offer, darunter Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, Penn State, Louisville, West Virginia.

    Josh Haden hat in der Zwischenzeit ein großes BC Tatoo, falls Florida sich noch Chancen ausrechnete können sie diese begraben.

    Runningback Rotation war auch in der 3. Scrimage angesagt. Dieses Warten dauert zum Glück eh nur mehr 1 Woche, dann ist das Wake Forest Spiel endlich.

    Wake Forest ist die große Frage: One Year Wonder oder am Weg ein Top Team zu werden? ACC Champion werden sie sicher nicht nochmal. Letztes Jahr wurden sie einfach von vielen, nicht von allen, unterschättz. Offene erste Halbzeit und dann klarer Sieg für BC!

    Nachdem ich das Spiel gestern endlich gesehen habe, kann ich endlich auch was dazu sagen. Aber zuerstmal dürfen die Medien ran:

    Womit soll man beginnen? Vielleicht mit Matt Ryans 400+ Passing Yards und fünf TD Pässen. Steve Logan sah sich im ersten Drive (3 and out) die Defense an, reagierte darauf (Mr. Bible he REACTED TO THE GAMEPLAN OF AN OPPONENT, have you ever tried something like this before?). Eine wunderbere Situation: nachdem man 0-14 zurücklag sagte Jags zu Ryan - "don´t worry now we found out how to play them" und dann liefs.

    -QB/Receiver: Die erste Interception war Ryan´s Fehler, Coverage nicht gut gelesen. Obwohl ständig gepasst wurde konnte sich die Defense nicht darauf einstellen. Wirklich alle Receiver wurden ins Passspiel eingebunden, zirka zehn Leute hatten Receptions. Ryan war phänomenal. Logan wird wohl nicht lang Offensive Coordinator bleiben sondern bald wieder einen HC Posten haben. Die Receiver fingen die Bälle, kann mich an einen fangbaren Ball erinnern der fallengelassen wurde.
    - RB´s: wo war das Running Game? LV war verletzt aber da muss viel mehr kommen. A.J. Brooks muss dabei nicht unbedingt involviert werden, er wirkte bei jeder Reception bei jedem Lauf extrem unsicher, dazu das herumgefumble. Auch Callender brachte nicht viel.
    - OLine: zwei Sacks zu gelassen, beide über die linke Seite. Einmal wurde Cherilus geschlagen. Die rechte Seite ließ kaum Pressure zu, Castonzo hatte ein starkes Debüt. Ryan Poles lieferte einen unglaublichen Block vor dem zweiten TD. Run Blocking funktionierte auch halbwegs, kann man noch nicht wirklich beurteilen, viel gelaufen wurde ja nicht.
    - DLine: stark, auch ohne B.J. Raji. Die DLine dominierte die Wake Forest OLine wenn es ums Laufspiel ging. Wurden überhaupt Rushing Yards zugelassen?
    Spaziani lässt sehr konservativ spielen, deshalb gab es eigentlich fast immer nur einen 4-Man Rush und sehr wenig Pressure auf Skinner (und später den Backup dessen Name mir im Moment nicht einfällt) - das erklärt eigentlich auch die 350+ Passing Yards von Wake. Sobald geblitzed wurde kam Skinner unter Druck - daher bitte mehr davon.
    -LB: Herzlich war sehr unauffällig. Aber steelersfreak meint immer das er so begeistert von ihm sei, da er zwar unaufällig spiele aber seine Zone perfekt abdecke. Nehmen wir mal an das dies wieder der Fall war. An einen wichtigen Stop bei vierter und Kurz kann ich mich erinnern.
    Dunbar war überall am Feld anzutreffen. Sie spielen mir insgesamt viel zu vorsichtig, lassen ständig Pässe bis zu 6,7 Yards zu.
    -DB´s: die Schwachstelle, trotz drei Interceptions von Tribble der im Man-to-Man nicht zu schlagen war. Hatte zu Beginn die Hoffnung, das Skinner so gut sei, als der Backup dann auch 10-10 war begann ich mir sorgen zu machen.
    - Special Teams: Schlecht bis sehr schlecht. Billy Bennetts Redshirt sollte nur ein Spiel dauern. Apo´s Kickoffs waren extrem schlecht. 3/4 mal Out of Bounds gekicked, sonst bis zur 20 und dann auf den Bounce gehofft - das war erschreckend. Jeff Smith war ausgefallen daher litt auch das Return Game, Brooks war auch hier unsicher.
    FAZIT: Es besteht keine Grund euphorisch zu werden. Ein Sieg gegen einen guten Gegner, mehr war es nicht. Der erste TD Pass von Ryan hätte gut und gern Intercepted werden können, dann stehts 0-21, dass lässt sich Wake nicht mehr nehmen.

    Taji Morris schätz ich mal.
    Depth Chart für das NC State Spiel ist draußen. Kein B.J. Raji, Robert Francois und kein Jeff Smith darin zu finden. Dafür ist LV Whitworth wieder fit.

    Harrison Beck ist Quarterback für NC State gegen Boston College. Dieses Spiel bringt viel Brisanz mit sich, da ja ex Eagles HC Tom O'Brien an seine alte Wirkungsstätte zurückkehrt.

    Habe mir jetzt das gesamte Spiel gegen Wake Forest angesehen und muss sagen: Ich bin begeistert.

    Dieser startete letztes Wochenende sein erstes Spiel für die Eagles und rechtfertigte das Vertrauen mit einem großartigen Spiel. Abgeklärt und souverän in der Pass Protection, athletisch und viel Konstanz. Wenn sein Blocking im 2nd Level gefragt war, tat er sich noch etwas schwer und verfehlte manchmal sein Ziel.

    Das NC State Spiel ist gewonnen. Super! Überschwängliche Freude kommt zwar nicht auf aber immerhin war Andre Callender in diesem Spiel stark. Auch die 5 Interceptions der Defense waren super. Können ja besser fangen als so mancher Wide Receiver aber ich will mich nicht schon wieder aufregen.

    Ach jetzt kommen für die Eagles die vermutlich leichteren Gegner bis man dann nach South Bend darf um über die Irish drüber zu fahren :bounce::bounce::bounce:

    Army ist immer schwer zu spielen, Bowling Green hat(ein schlechtes) Minnesota Team geschlagen und UMass war im NCAA Div.IAA Finale und verlor gegen Appalchian State (die sollen nicht so schlecht sein hab ich gehört... :xywave: ).

    der erste Pflichtsieg ist eingefahren, 37-17 gegen Army. hätte höher ausfallen können, doch man zog es vor am Ende die Uhr runterlaufen zu lassen.
    mMn das schlechteste Spiel bis jetzt - trotzdem gewonnen, niemand verletzt das gefällt.
    wenn Ryan wirklich ein Heisman Kandidat sein will, muss er sich so Dinge wie die zweite Interception sparen.

Der Lauf wird gestoppt, der Gegner muss passen und dann kommen (im Idealfall) die Turnover. die Belohnung #4 in der AP und in der Caoches Poll.     im Moment fällt mir keiner ein, den ich im Heismen-Rennen über Matt Ryan stellen würde.

    realistisch gesehen gewinnt BC mit +10.
    war da nicht mal was mit einem #4 Notre Dame Team das daheim gegen BC verlor - böses Karma.... (sollte Lou Holtz vor dem Spiel Notre Dame als Sieger vorhersagen gleicht sich das mit dem bösen Karma wieder aus :xywave: also Lou, du weißt was du zutun hast!)

    Warum sollte man bei 1-5 und 140 offense yds übermütig werden?

    sehe ich genaus wie BCEagles: Der Sieg der Irish ist das Beste was passieren hätte können.

    Irish bei derer schwachen Offensive Line den Lauf wegzunehmen ist mit Bestimmtheit nicht allzu große Schwierigkeit. Vorsicht dennoch vor den jungen Irish Receivern. Der WR Golden Tate hat einiges drauf und hat das gegen Purdue schon gezeigt.
