    öhm....Ich!

Echt nicht ? auch nicht geschenkt ?

... and a happy Festivus for the rest of us !
    .
    .

  • Geschenkt?

*grummel*

  • TSN's 2003 offensive breakout team

    Quarterback

The light finally is burning brightly instead of flickering faintly for Matt Hasselbeck of the Seahawks. This will be Hasselbeck's sixth year in the same basic offense, so he has a tremendous advantage over most quarterbacks in the league. He also finally has realized he does not have to be Brett Favre and that he can rely on the system and his teammates to move the ball.

Hasselbeck played some of the best football of his life when he started the final nine games last season. In leading the Seahawks to victories in the last three games, he went 78-of-116 for 1,050 yards, including club records of 36 completions and 449 yards against the Chargers in the final game.

A Hawk Talk interview with DT Norman Hand

Norman Hand is expected to play a big part in a much-improved Seahawks defense this season, and the defensive tackle says there's more talent in Seattle now than when he played in San Diego with a Chargers team that led the league in defense a few years ago.

    By Vic Carucci
    National Editor, NFL.com
    (July 9, 2003) -- We've got mail:

Do you think with the additions of nose tackle Norman Hand and linebacker Randall Godfrey, the Seahawks' run defense will improve under Ray Rhodes enough for the team to make the playoffs?
    -- Dave

I don't know if improving the league's worst defense against the run last year will, by itself, be enough to push the Seahawks into the playoffs. But it would greatly enhance their chances, provided they still display the offensive explosiveness they showed in the final three weeks of last season with Matt Hasselback at quarterback. Hand and Godfrey definitely make the Seahawks larger and tougher in the middle. Rhodes brings considerable expertise that will help the entire unit. And I think another factor in upgrading Seattle's run defense is the hiring of new strength and conditioning coach Bill Gillespie, who already has had a major influence. For instance, another nose tackle, Chad Eaton -- who had always played in the upper-200- to lower-300-pound range -- is a solid 325, with a hefty addition of muscle.
    -- Vic

    HELL YEAH!

    San Francisco 0 17 7 7 31

  • Veteran punter Matt Turk is scheduled to visit with Seattle officials and, if the coaches determine the eight-year veteran still has something left, could sign with the Seahawks. The team lost longtime punter Jeff Feagles to the New York Giants as an unrestricted free agent and, given the offseason performance of potential replacement Rodney Williams, may be in the market for a more proven veteran. Williams, who punted for the Giants in 2001 and also spent two spring seasons in NFL Europe League, has a very strong leg but is historically erratic. In stints with Washington (1995-99), Miami (2000-2001) and the New York Jets (2002), Turk has a career gross average of 42.9 yards and a 37.7-yard net average. He averaged 41.0 yards gross and 34.9 yards net for the Jets last season but was released this spring. Seattle has been forced to overhaul its kicking game because of the defections of Feagles and also place kicker Rian Lindell, who moved on to Buffalo as a restricted free agent. To replace Lindell, the Seahawks drafted former Nebraska kicker Josh Brown in the seventh round.

I'm Chad "The Chump" Eaton and I'm a Loser" sagen.

Time to deal with Jones, rookies

:sauer

    Seahawks hoping to re-sign Jones
    Seattle Times
Contract talks between Walter Jones and the Seahawks are expected to pick up next week. The Times' Greg Bishop reports that the Seahawks may offer Jones a deal worth $6 million per year with a signing bonus of $12 million to $14 million.

No end in sight to Pace contract dispute
    St. Louis Post-Dispatch
The Post-Dispatch's Nick Wishart reports that the Rams' contract dispute with Orlando Pace may not be resolved until after the start of the season.. Talks have been stalled ever since Pace's agent asked for an $85 million deal with a $23.8 million signing bonus.

    Seahawks Team Report
OLB Chad Brown, who is ahead of schedule in rehabbing the foot injury that ended his 2002 season, will be on the field when camp begins.

    Seahawks | Davis Signed
    Fri, 18 Jul 2003 10:56:05 -0700

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Seattle Seahawks have signed rookie FB Chris Davis to a three-year deal worth $1.014 million with a $104,000 signing bonus. Davis, who was the team's fifth-round selection this year, will receive base salaries of $225,000 (2003); $305,000 (2004); $380,000 (2005). Davis will count $259,667 against the 2003 salary cap.

  • Seahawks | Kacyvenski To Backup Both OLB Spots - from http://www.KFFL.com
    Sat, 19 Jul 2003 11:56:14 -0700

Clare Farnsworth, of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, reports for the Sporting News that Seattle Seahawks LB Isaiah Kacyvenski will be the top backup at both outside linebacker positions this season.

    Let's win the 5th, guys!

  • Seahawks report: Inside slant (CBS Sportsline.com)

Top to bottom, the Seattle Seahawks have a different look and a different attitude. In so many ways, this franchise has been retooled. It is now time to discover if that means it's also been improved.

What could be the most important addition as the Hawks head into training camp, though, is defensive coordinator Ray Rhodes.
Rhodes' impact already has been felt. His arrival was significant in the re-signing of Simmons and the wooing of Godfrey and Robinson. Cornerback Shawn Springs hit minicamps at full speed and eager to compete ... perhaps as a result of Rhodes' challenge.

  • Alles wird gut! :)

    1st round - Marcus Trufant (CB), 5 Jahre, ?$
    2nd round - Ken Hamlin (S), 4 Jahre, ?$
    3rd round - Wayne Hunter (OT), 3 Jahre, 1.5 Millionen$

:sauer

Trufant agrees to five-year deal with Seahawks (Seattle Post Intelligencer)
"Marcus is ecstatic. His family is ecstatic. We're ecstatic," Henderickson said. "We felt it was really important we got him into camp on time."

New defensive coordinator Ray Rhodes has big plans for the rookie cornerback, who was the 11th pick overall in the April NFL draft. Trufant was used as the left cornerback in the nickel defense at the spring minicamps, but showed enough that he should push for even more playing time.

Seahawks, Trufant reach 5-year agreement (The News Tribune)
Trufant was the 11th player chosen in the 2003 draft. Seattle expects him to compete for a starting job.

Seahawks agree to deal with No. 11 overall pick (ESPN)
With their rookie class due to report for training camp later in the evening, the Seattle Seahawks reached agreements on Wednesday afternoon with first-round draft selection Marcus Trufant and second-round pick Ken Hamlin, ESPN.com has learned.

He [Trufant] is likely to be the Seahawks' No. 3 cornerback and, with Shawn Springs scheduled for unrestricted free agency next spring, could step into the starting lineup early in his career.

Actually, the hard-hitting Hamlin has an even better chance than Trufant to start in 2003. In offseason workouts, the Seattle staff was impressed by Hamlin's aggressiveness, and the Seahawks could certainly use that trait in the interior secondary.

:sauer

    *Seeheim - proud to be a Steward - NFL-Talk Fantasy Football 2003 - 2011* :snif

  • CB Marcus Trufant hat heute einen 5 Jahres Vertrag unterzeichnet.
Seattles #1 Pick von Washington State war der 11. Pick der diesjährigen Draft.

Ex-Arkansas S Ken Hamlin, #6 Pick der Hawks (42nd overall), unterzeichnete einen 4 Jahres Vertrag.

    *Seeheim - proud to be a Steward - NFL-Talk Fantasy Football 2003 - 2011* :snif

Seahawks Senior VP Mike Reinfeldt on the Signings

Q: Any updates on Walter Jones?
Mike: We've had conversations today and a number over the past week. We're really trying to urge him to take the tender so we can get in and get to work and get the deal done. I think it behooves everyone the sooner he accepts the tender and comes in to camp and we can sit down and negotiate the deal. I think it's better for everyone.

    WUCK FALTER!!!

  • So. Nun ist es offiziell.

Seahawks Release Two Prior to Start of Training Camp
Kirkland, WA. - The Seattle Seahawks released tackle Chris McIntosh and punter Glenn Pakulak, it was announced by the team Friday.
    Ähmmm....Glenn Who?!?

    Seahawks Team Report (Sporting News)
DT Chad Eaton, who was listed at 303 pounds last season, has bulked up to 320 by working with strength coach Bill Gillespie, a nine-time world champion in the bench press. With the newfound emphasis on stopping the run, Eaton's added bulk is a plus. He already was the team's most consistent defensive lineman.

DT Norman Hand, acquired on draft day from the Saints, arrived to the Seahawks with a reputation for having weight and attitude problems. But so far, the team has seen neither.

To fix the team's porous defense, new coordinator Ray Rhodes plans on keeping things simple, which will allow his players to react more and think less, and rotating players more, which should keep them fresher late in games. Rhodes will substitute as many as six players when the team brings in its nickel defense.

    *Seeheim - proud to be a Steward - NFL-Talk Fantasy Football 2003 - 2011* :snif

    *Seeheim - proud to be a Steward - NFL-Talk Fantasy Football 2003 - 2011* :snif

  • Wow! ;)

    Seahawks' Jones not in camp
Jones, the Seahawks' 29-year-old left tackle, might actually set foot on Eastern Washington University's campus in the near future.

Without getting into specifics, agent Roosevelt Barnes said Friday that he expects his client to get under contract in the coming days. Still without a long-term deal, Jones skipped all of training camp in 2002 as well as the first two games of the regular season.

"I'm pretty optimistic we can get something done before things get rolling," Barnes said via telephone Friday morning as Seahawks veterans were reporting for camp.

Asked to specify whether that meant Jones would be under contract for the Sept. 7 regular season opener, Barnes said: "Maybe in time for the first practice of (training) camp. It's just a gut feeling more than anything."

Mike Holmgren comments following morning practice
    (2003 Training Camp)

Q: Any updates on the progress of the injured guys?
Mike: ..... "Chad (Brown) with his surgery the plan is probably let him start practicing in two weeks, really start practicing. We’re on the conservative side with all these guys. With Chad we know he’s a veteran and he’s always in pretty good shape. He can do some things, but we don’t want to throw him into the pile there in a contact situation. He’ll be ready to do most things we think in two weeks."

    Q: How is Trent’s health?
Mike: “He’s probably four weeks behind where he would be because of the situation with his son. His Achilles is good, it’s healed. Now he’s a little bit heavy and as a result he hasn’t done as much as he would normally do by this time. ..... He’s going to be at every practice and he won’t take as many reps and then get him ready that way. He’s got to get his weight down, which he’ll do. He has to loosen up and get his arm in strength. He hasn’t done as much as he would normally do at this time.”

  • Mike Holmgren comments following morning practice
    (2003 Training Camp)

Q: How about the depth on the defensive line?
Mike: “That’s one of the areas we have more players. I think in a perfect world Ray (Rhodes) and Dwaine (Board) would like to rotate a bunch of players during the games. They’re big guys. They do get tired when they’re going hard. To be able to rotate them would speak to our advantage as long as you don’t have a big drop off from the first group to the second, and I don’t think we will. I think we’ll have two pretty good groups.”

Q: How many linemen do you plan to keep?
Mike: “Over the years about nine or ten. In a perfect world we’d have eight, nine or ten, somewhere in there. It depends where you’re heavy in certain positions. The good big players are harder to find. It’s going to very competitive at a lot of positions and our cuts are going to be more difficult this year than we’ve had.”

Off Mic - Insides and insights from the voice of the Seahawks, Brian Davis
CHENEY—Contact! There were some worthy explosions at the line of scrimmage and fans lining the fence around the practice field “ooh”ed and “aah”ed like they were watching a fireworks show as the Seahawks practiced for the first time in full gear.

[.....]The idea is to instill a junkyard-dog mentality for which defensive coordinator Ray Rhodes has become renowned.
YEAH...das will ich hören! Rhode(s) Warriors!

Getting his kicks. Rookie kicker Josh Brown has been nearly automatic with his placements since joining the Seahawks after his selection in the seventh round of the draft. When Brown finally missed one, a teammate standing nearby piped up, “He is human!”
    Wow.....Lindell Who? :D

  • ARGHHHHHHH

According to John Clayton (and Mike Holmgren, who interviewed earlier with Mitch Levy), Roosevelt Barnes isn't even bothering to return Seattle's phone calls anymore.
:sauer

QB pulls muscle on his side late in workouts
Dilfer pulled a muscle on the right side of his abdomen late in Monday's afternoon workout. He visited briefly with a trainer, then walked off the field holding his side and grimacing.
It wasn't clear how long the injury will keep Dilfer sidelined. A team official said coaches probably will be cautious about his return, since it likely was caused by his throwing motion.
Defensive end John Hilliard broke a bone in his right hand during a morning drill and watched afternoon workouts. He was expected to return to practice as early as Tuesday.
Two defenders were held out of afternoon workouts as a precaution: tackle Chad Eaton, who twisted his left knee, and linebacker Anthony Simmons, who complained of soreness in the left ankle that forced him to miss nine games last season.

*humpf*
Aber es hätte auch schlimmer kommen können.

Mike Holmgren comments following morning practice
    2003 Training Camp

Q: Are you happy with the progress so far?
Mike: “Yeah, we’re right on track. In fact, normally speaking, we’re a little bit ahead. We had a lot of guys involved with the off season program. I’m pleased with how guys are studying. We haven’t had a lot of blown assignments out at practice, so that’s always a good sign for me. We’re fine, we’re right on schedule.”

Q: How rare is it to have two rookies [Trufant, Hamlin] this polished?
Mike: “Well, it might be weird, but it’s nice. I don’t know. I’m glad we have them. They’re physically very talented kids. Now, they have to learn it and have to get used to the speed and the difference in the game tempo. Then they should be fine.”

Q: Is Josh Brown the real deal?
Mike: “So far. Now, he hasn’t had anyone yelling at him or rushing him in a game, but you see him and he has a strong leg and kicks it real easy. He doesn’t talk to himself. He’s kind of normal for a kicker. So far, so good.”

John Randle comments following afternoon practice
Q: Where did your habit of mentoring rookies start?
John: “I guess that’s the way the game is supposed to be played. You have a young group of guys who don’t really understand the game, and when you’re playing you try to show them how the game is supposed to be played. You try to show them what you are supposed to do and what you are not.”

    RANDLE.....RANDLE.....RANDLE.....RANDLE.....RANDLE..... :fleh

  • Hasselbeck has learned to listen
''It's easier to do it their way,'' Hasselbeck said of the Seahawks' offensive coaches. ''Let them do all the thinking, and you just go do it. It's actually a lot nicer, and there's less stress involved. I don't know what I was thinking before.''

''Matt can be stubborn,'' Holmgren said Tuesday, recalling the 2001 season. ''But it worked so well for him at the end of (last) season that he realized: 'I've gone through my apprenticeship, I've argued with Mike enough.' ''

FIRST DOWN SEAHAWKS!

Top 5 Offence, Top 12 Defence -> NFC West Campion! GO SEAHAWKS!
    und ach ja.....WUCK FALTER!!!

  • From ESPN Insider: Trufant is making rookie mistakes in his coverages and assignments from time to time, but there´s no mistaking his natural ability.
At times, Trufant gets twisted around or is out of position trying to cover proven veteran receivers like Darrell Jackson and Koren Robinson. But he somehow makes up ground in a hurry, so much so that he not only gets one hand on the ball, he bats it with both hands.

From ESPN Insdier: Competition for jobs and playing time is heating up as the weather warms in training camp. Safety Ken Hamlin, a rookie second-round draft choice, is clearly too talented to get most of his snaps with the second and third team defensive units, and is in with the No. 1 defense frequently.
Hamlin has made the right reads, gotten to the right spot on the field and has even delivered a couple of solid hits, and the coaches are noticing it and talking about it.

:daumenho:

Off Mic - Insides and insights from the voice of the Seahawks, Brian Davis
The Marshall plan. New linebackers coach John Marshall exudes an infectious combination of enthusiasm and toughness. He has wasted no time installing some aggressive contact drills that are in line with what coordinator Ray Rhodes wants.
Some NFL observers wonder whether the Seahawks might have the league’s most talented linebackers. Marshall said it is too early to talk like that. “It is because they have to do it,” he said. “At the end of the year, if they’re together—have played, have dominated—then maybe they’ll earn that reputation. I sure hope that happens.”

    GO ALEX! :)
