Trotzdem ist nach internationalen Dopingregeln schon der Versuch mit einem positiven Test gleichzusetzen. Dass die das in Amerika nicht interessiert, ist natürlich klar, aber ob die das so einfach hinnehmen?
Aber wie clever ist es eigentlich, bei der Vergangenheit/Gegenwart, mit so einem Teil rumzulaufen?

Smith whizzes past reporters

Quarterback Daunte Culpepper and No. 1 draft choice Troy Williamson were among 74 players who showed up Monday for the start of the Vikings' four-day developmental camp, but they didn't draw the most media attention.

That was reserved for running back Onterrio Smith, who is taking part in the voluntary camp but not talking about last week's reports that he was stopped April 21 at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport with a device designed to circumvent drug tests.

Smith and "The Original Whizzinator" have been the punch line to countless jokes since then, but he brushed off reporters' questions after practice by saying, "Gotta go to work."

Fellow running back Moe Williams said Smith's situation isn't a distraction or even a hot topic of conversation in the Vikings' locker room.

"We do our little one-liner jokes, and that's the end of it," Williams said. "That's about it."

The NFL is investigating Smith, who already has two strikes against him in the league's substance-abuse program. He faces a one-year suspension for his next offense, but possession of test-altering paraphernalia outside of a testing situation is not a violation of league policy.

The third-year running back took his normal repetitions during Monday's practice.

"Until I'm told differently, his role is going to be developed," offensive coordinator Steve Loney said. "Those (other) decisions are going to be made in offices a lot bigger than mine. … My job is to coach the guys that are in the room and not worry about it. If they're in the room, then I'm going to coach them and put them out on the field."

Smith is competing with Michael Bennett and Mewelde Moore for the starting running back job, and Loney said he feels good about all four of his backs, including fourth-round draft choice Ciatrick Fason of Florida.

Culpepper said he hopes Smith makes everything right and takes care of his business.

"I'm not his mama or his daddy," the quarterback said. "I'm just his friend. All I can do is give him good advice. I'll just tell him to try to be smart and make good decisions."

No-shows: Strong safety Corey Chavous and cornerback Brian Williams, who reportedly are unhappy with their contracts, are skipping this voluntary camp, but their teammates claim it's not a distraction.

"We're all grown men," cornerback Antoine Winfield said. "We all have business to take care of. We all go about it in different ways, but we're all here to play football. We know when it comes down to Sept. 11 and we open up against Tampa Bay, they'll all be here."

Briefly: Free safety Darren Sharper, who is working as a television commentator for NFL Europe games, was excused from developmental camp.

n Right guard Chris Liwien-ski was given the day off after attending his infant daughter's baptism, but he is expected at camp today.

• Five rookies, led by third-round safety Dustin Fox of Ohio State, could not attend because their schools are still in session.

• Coach Mike Tice, who earlier this month was forced to watch minicamp from a golf cart following ankle surgery, has graduated to a walking boot.

Williamson gains confidence

The early jitters and dropped balls of minicamp have been replaced by flashes of potential and a growing sense of self-confidence.

Troy Williamson still has a long way to go to become a complete NFL receiver, but the Vikings' No. 1 draft choice already looks and feels a lot more comfortable than he did just three weeks ago.

"Troy Williamson, like I've told you guys, he's everything that he was billed to be," offensive coordinator Steve Loney said Wednesday on Day 3 of a four-day developmental camp. "You'll see him deep behind people almost every practice, and he certainly has to be a concern defensively."

That represents progress for Williamson, who was taken by the Vikings with the No. 7 overall selection of the April 24 NFL draft but got off to a stumbling start at the team's April 29-May 1 minicamp, dropping several passes.

"I was real, real nervous," Williamson said. "You could tell, even how I was catching the ball and running my routes. Now I'm comfortable with what I've got to do. I'm just getting in the groove of everything and running with it, pretty much."

Williamson hasn't made anyone forget Randy Moss yet, but the former South Carolina receiver would appear to have a bright NFL future. Take that from cornerback Fred Smoot, a fifth-year pro who has worked against the rookie during practice.

"Hey, man, pure talent," Smoot said. "He has still got to learn the ins and outs of the NFL, but once he does that and gets comfortable with the system, he's going to be an awesome receiver. I think it was a great pick."

Williamson's quiet personality is in sharp contrast to that of the talkative Smoot, who compares his new teammate to one of the NFL's silent stars.

"He reminds me a lot of Marvin Harrison," Smoot said, referring to the Indianapolis Colts' five-time Pro Bowl selection. "He gets in and out of his cuts quickly. He does have the straight-line speed everybody talks about, and he has great hands. Once he becomes a polished receiver, look out."

The Vikings aren't counting on Williamson to be another Harrison or Moss, for starters. The plan is to bring their No. 1 draft pick along slowly and develop some packages to get him on the field.

Smith returns: Running back Onterrio Smith returned to practice after missing Tuesday's workout to attend to what team officials described as personal NFL business.

"I know it's a tough time for him, but he has remained focused in our meetings and at practice," Loney said. "He had a nice run (today). He's got to fight through whatever challenges he has."

Briefly: Vikings director of pro scouting Paul Wiggin, who isn't sure yet whether he'll return for a 21st season with the team, has been elected to the College Football Hall of Fame. Wiggin's contract expires June 1.

• Williamson and the Vikings' other rookies will miss the final day of developmental camp to attend the NFL's mandatory rookie orientation session.

Wenn er wieder an seine Form aus 2001 anknüpfen kann, auf jeden Fall. Ansonsten hat er auch große Weiten drauf, ist aber im Bereich von 30-50 Yards viel zu ungenau.

Ich hoffe er trifft für euch genauso gut wie er es für uns die letzten 2 Jahre getan hat.
Wir haben ja leider auch die eine Gurke gegen eine nicht wirklich bessere ausgetauscht. Werdet glücklich mit eurem Edinger, den wolltet ihr schon immer und nun habt ihr ihn endlich.

Eine weitere Free-Agent Verpflichtung scheint anzustehen.

Mike Tice scheint von R.W. McQuarters recht angetan zu sein und äußerte sich sehr positiv über eine mögliche Verpflichtung. Allerdings machte er auch eine kleine Anspielung auf Brian Williams, der ja immer noch nicht unterschrieben hat für die nächste Saison, indem er sagte, dass es für Williams besser gewesen wäre im Developmental Camp dabei zu sein.

Schätze beide auf der Position des Nickel Backs gleich ein, ein Plus für Mc Quarters ist sicherlich, dass er auch Punt bzw. Ko-Returner in Chicago war.

Die Sache kann natürlich auch nur ein Bluff gewesen sein, um Williams zum Unterschreiben zu bringen.

Eine Verpflichtung von McQuarters, oder auch nur das Gerücht darüber, ist in jedem Fall positiv für die Vikings. Zum einen gibt es wie Du schon sagst einigen Druck auf Brian Williams, zum anderen aber auch auf Corey Chavous der ja auch im Holdout ist. Wenn McQuarters und Williams zurückkommt könnte einer von beiden (oder Irvin) Safety spielen, und damit Chavous den Platz streitig machen. Aber selbst ohne diesen zusätzlichen Druck auf andere Spieler, heutzutage kann ein Team einfach nicht genügend NFLtaugliche DBs haben, und McQuarters als Nickel oder Dimeback wäre sicher nicht das schlechteste, wenn ich ihn auch nicht unbedingt als Starter einschätze.

Tja das war zu erwarten, die Frage ist ob der überhaupt noch mal in die NFL zurückkommt.

Selbst in Schuld die alte Pfeife. Gut dass die Minnesota Vikings zumindest nicht dringend auf einen Onterrio Smith angewiesen sind und die NFL da richtig hart durchgreift.

Ist übrigens nicht gesagt das die Strafe das Resultat der Geschichte mit dem Whizzinator ist da die Liga den Grund für die Strafe nicht spezifisch angibt. Ich habe gerüchteweise gehört das er zu einem Test nicht gekommen ist bzw. nicht aufzufinden war, was ja als nicht bestandener Test gewertet wird.

Dass er schlecht ist und im Vergleich zu Culpepper 'ne richtige Niete,was zwar ehrlich wäre, aber vielleicht dann doch nicht sonderlich hiflreich kurz vor der Saison.

Da ergeben sich während der Saison bestimmt noch bessere Gelegenheiten für den guten Randy, wenn Collins ihm keine brauchbaren Bälle wirft, und wieder mal mehr INTs als TDs produziert hat.

ich bin eigentlich guter dinge, daß moss es auch in oakland schafft einen durchschnittlichen qb überdurchschnittlich in szene setzen zu können

Naja ich denke Culpepper muss nicht mehr beweisen, dass er ein überdurchschnittlicher QB ist, hätte Manning letztes Jahr nicht ne noch
bessere Saison hingelegt, hätte Daunte wohl schon den nötigen Respekt bekommen.

Außerdem hat Culpepper in den Spielen, in denen Moss verletzt fehlte, sehr gut gespielt, auch ohne Randy.

Ich denke schon, dass Culpepper den nötigen Respekt bekommt. Seine Super Stats sind unbestritten. Tatsache ist aber auch, dass er bislang noch nichts gewonnen hat. Ob er ein Team zum großen Erfolg führen kann, dies hat er noch nicht bewiesen. Da er noch jung ist, hat er aber noch ein bisschen Zeit. Falls die Vikings also auf die Idee kommen sollten, ihn gegen einen mittelmäßigen LB tauschen zu wollen, würden die Raiders vielleicht darauf eingehen

Bei Collins würde ich mal diese Saison abwarten, ob er diese Saison nicht ebenfalls sehr gute Stats aufweisen wird können. Denn solche Waffen, wie sie Culpepper über Jahre hinweg hatte, verfügt Collins zum ersten mal. Das ein WR wie Moss einen QB besser aussehen lässt, wird wohl keiner bezweifeln.

mir schon

jetzt mal im ernst. ich will culpepper sicher nicht schlechtreden oder qualitäten absprechen. ich würde ihn wahrscheinlich sogar eine stufe höher einordnen als collins (obwohl dieser schon eine maximal gehobene mittelmäßige offense in den superbowl geführt hat). für die spitze fehlt aber schon noch ein ganzes stück.

deshalb kann ich bei diesem vergleich nicht mal ansatzweise eine "gotteslästerung" orten. culpepper hatte sicher eine sehr gute saison und beeidruckende stats - aber auch nicht mehr. ob er der oberhero ist der ohne moss eine offense über eine ganze spielzeit tragen kann und in den playoffs über sich hinaus wächst wird sich noch zeigen. oder auch nicht... bis dahin gilt für mich bei dieser verhandlung für sämtliche beteiligte die unschuldsvermutung :p

Nun ja wenn man mal die Karriere stats von Daunte und Kerry vergleicht dann sind das doch schon Welten..( Stats sind auch nicht alles ich weiß..)

Ums klar zu sagen ich mag Collins ( bevor er nach Oakland ging) nur zwischen ihm und Cullpeper liegen meiner Meinung nach mindestens 2 Stufen.

Natürlich hat Moss auch einen hohen Anteilen an den Stats ohne Frage
Nur ganz so schlecht war der Support Cast den Collins er bei den Giants in der Offense hatte auch nicht meiner Meinung nach.

Hauptproblem von Collins ist seine Unkostanz an guten Tagen feuert er dir jede Defense auseinander am schlechten gar keine.
Und das größte Handicap ist meiner Meinung nach. dass er sich selten wenn es in einem Spiel schlecht für ihn läuft steigern kann.

Für mich gehört Collins er zu den besseren QB's der Liga. Seine Fumbleitis hat er überwunden und angesichts der interessanten Receiver in Oakland, darf man mit einem 85er Season-Rating durchaus rechnen. Wer ihn für den Schwachpunkt in der Raiders-Offense hält, wird noch genügend Zeit zum Wundern haben. Für mich als Bucs-Fan gab es z.B. keine lange Überlegensdauer, als ich bei meinen FF-Keepern zwischen Collins und Griese wählen durfte.
